The history of Z Records is a very long one dating back to the mid 1980's and starts in Liverpool England. Mark Alger launched his company Zero Option Rock PR in 1985 which grew rapidly boasting such clients over the years as Queen, Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and many more. As the mainstream Hard Rock / Metal scene began to change so did Zero Options activities. Little did Alger know that a little push from renowned Kerrang Journalist Dave Reynolds backstage at Donnington 96 whilst having a beer, would point his already successful company in a different direction... A Record label.
September 17th 1997 Z Records is officially launched with the signing of their first act, they rocked, they had attitude they where
Sweden's Jekyll and Hyde who where the be blue print for the now very successful The Poodles. Mark Alger to this day says
he thinks the label during its first 2/3 years was a little to far ahead of the scene which sadly resulted in lower than hoped sales but
some great albums. The new millennium came and 2000 saw the signing of some heavy weights from the genre which Z specialised in.... Badlands, 21 Guns featuring Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy, Lillian Axe, Vaughn [ex Tyketto] and the in the following years
Enuff Z Nuff, Bonfire, the supergroup Westworld and the Mighty talents of Doug Aldrich [Whitesnake] and his band Burning Rain, Jani Lane of Warrant the list is never ending. 2003 saw a few problems after pushing heavily into Germany which caused financial losses. It is well documented as to what some said but Z continued and  is still here proving the labels stance was correct and the finger pointing was unfounded. 2010 the label takes legal action to clear up some final issues with parties which is successful.
2010 / 2011 will be a exciting year for the label, new Acts such as Legion [English / US supergroup], Holy Rage [feat Judas Priests original singer] are set to release their mind blowing debuts. And with high class new acts such as Watchmen, Jakks, Dercole and current Z roster bands the future looks bright for the label to develop the genre the people whom run it love so much rather than living in the past.
